George Harrison: Living in the Material World

Added to my films
George Harrison may have been “the quiet one,” but he led perhaps the most diverse life of any of the Beatles. For years after his death in 2001, George’s widow Olivia found the idea of participating in a documentary about her late husband too painful. Her treasure trove of keepsakes from George’s life remained hidden in the attic. When the time came, she turned to a filmmaker who connected with George on many levels, sharing not only a passion for music and film but also a desire for meaningful spirituality: Martin Scorsese. Five years in the making, the film reveals an incredible cache of footage and photographs, home movies, unreleased songs and writings. Perhaps most remarkable and most revealing are emotionally charged interviews with Harrison intimates like his wife Olivia, his only son Dhani, ex-band mates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton, Phil Spector (prior to his 2009 conviction for murder), Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam.
