Book smugglers
Added to my films
An Irish poet and a Lithuanian stage director retrace the steps of the 19th century Lithuanian Book Smugglers, who risked their lives to resist Russification and save their language from extinction by smuggling books, newspapers, and magazines into the country from Prussia and distributing them along clandestine networks. Travelling through the forests and along the rivers, each learns something about his own country and about the links between language and identity.
