After his beloved Tanja dies, Miron, director of a paper factory in the Kostroma town of Neya, asks his friend Aist, a photographer, to accompany him on a journey to bury his wife at the place where they had spent their honeymoon. Based on Denis Osokin's short story „The Buntings“ this is a road movie with a difference. Both a requiem and a film about love, it is set in a former Finnish enclave which became part of Russia under Ivan the Terrible. Pagan and Christian elements combined and the traditional Merjan folk customs and traditions still survive. About Director Aleksei Fedorchenko (b. 1966) Aleksei Fedorchenko was born in Siberia.
