Festivals’ Favourites programme to include “BPM (Beats per Minute)” and “Battle of the Sexes” (photos)

Well-received films from experienced directors will be presented in the programme Festivals’ Favourites. Robin Campillo’s Cannes-winning “BPM (Beats per Minute)”, Michaël R. Roskam’s passionate story about star-crossed lovers “Racer and the Jailbird”, and Paolo Genovese’s new drama “The Place” are just some of the crowd-pleasers coming to Kino Pavasaris.

25 feature and 10 short films selected for this programme will represent a variety of genres and stories. Emma Stone as Billie Jean King fights for equality on and off the tennis court in “Battle of the Sexes”, the dramatization of her famous 1970s match against Bobby Riggs, played by Steve Carell. Another strong and determined woman is at the center of “Silvana”, a documentary about the half-Lithuanian, half-Syrian rapper and women’s rights activist from Sweden who will be a true inspiration to many.

Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s “Under the Tree” shows how indifference and lack of communication result in tragedy; Savi Gabizon explores fatherhood and loss in the darkly funny “Longing”; Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza’s provocative and heartfelt “Candelaria” portrays an elderly Cuban couple rekindling their love; Aleksey German Jr. spends six days in the life of famous Russian writer in “Dovlatov”, which premieres later this month at Berlinale; and Emmanuel Finkiel’s “Memoir of Pain”, based on an autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras, shows a young writer in Nazi occupied France waiting for her husband to be released from the concentration camp.
